It is with immense pride and gratitude that we share a remarkable journey of courage, resilience, and commitment by Team Incredible Mallakhamb, who recently represented India at the prestigious Ansan Street Arts Festival 2024 in South Korea.
What looked like just another international performance on paper turned out to be one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences in our journey so far.
As we prepared to fly to South Korea, carrying our essential Mallakhamb apparatus (over 40kg), we encountered major setbacks at the airport. The airline refused to allow the equipment onboard due to weight restrictions, and we spent over three hours negotiating and hoping for a solution.
With time running out and the flight ready to depart, we made a difficult but quick decision:
Two of us would fly ahead to ensure we reached on time.
Our teammate Hassan would stay behind and fly the next day, bringing the pole with him.
Despite the confusion, emotional stress, and logistical hurdles, our sole focus was to make India proud on this global stage.
We coordinated overnight to ensure the Mallakhamb pole reached us.
A massive thanks to our friend Tanaji, who helped transport the pole, and Sanil and Tanmay, who remained calm under pressure.
Hassan, despite this being his first-ever international trip, took the responsibility of flying alone to Seoul with the equipment.
Upon arrival, the venue staff, local supporters, and the event organizers were eagerly awaiting the Indian team’s performance. Despite the 13°C temperature, our athletes performed bare-bodied, showcasing true discipline and dedication to the art form.
Over 4 consecutive days, we delivered 4–6 shows daily – each met with thunderous applause and admiration.
The South Korean audience, media, and local communities were deeply moved and amazed by the strength, balance, and spirituality of Mallakhamb.
Our story even featured in local news articles and media coverage, helping promote Indian indigenous sport on an international platform.
This performance wasn’t just about showcasing skill — it was a tribute to our roots, to India’s rich cultural heritage, and to the resilience of our Incredible Mallakhamb team.
Every challenge faced, every sleepless night, and every last-minute call was worth it – because we could raise our Tiranga high in a foreign land and make India proud.
Jai Hind 🇮🇳 | Jai Mallakhamb 🙏
